Scots Pirates were a reunion group of sorts of some of the most notable alumni of the '60s Michigan rock scene, particularly guitarist/singer Scott Morgan (The Rationals) and drummer Scott Asheton (The Stooges). The band also included bassist Gary Rasmussen , who, with Morgan , Asheton , and the late Fred Sonic Smith, played in Sonic's Rendezvous Band . With some other musicians filling out the lineup, Scots Pirates recorded three albums, starting with 'Rock Action' (1989) followed by 'Action Now' (1992) and 'Revolutionary Means' (1995) was their last effort, and finds them playing hard rock with soul influences, in a manner consistent with the ethos established by the Stooges , mc5, and Sonic's Rendezvous Band .

Up were part of John Sinclair's White Panther/Rainbow People's commune in Ann Arbor and usually end up as a sidebar in the MC5/Stooges saga. But, they may yet become a story in and of themselves. While the music historians of the world have continually debated where and when Punk began, those who are familiar with Up's first 45 - "Just Like An Aborigine" - may know the truth. Were these guys at least a decade ahead of their time?
You decide. There's a ton of evidence on (and the whole Up story in the liner notes to) "Killer Up" (on CD & 10" LP) available from Alive/Total Energy Records: The 90's home of Detroit's high-energy musical heritage.
