Shake Some Action

I will find a way
to get to you someday
Oh but I, Baby, I'm so afraid I'll fall
Yeah, now can't you hear me call

Shake some action's what I need
To let me bust out at full speed
and I'm sure that's all you'll need
to make it alright

It's taken me so long
to get where I belong
Oh, but Lord please don't send me back that way
or I will make you pay

Shake some action's what I need
To let me bust out at full speed
and I'm sure that's all you'll need
to make it alright

If you don't dig what I'm saying
then I will go away
and I won't come this way again
cuz I don't need your praise

Shake some action's what I need
To let me bust out at full speed
and I'm sure that's all you'll need
to make it alright

Not the best version: too much loudness

POP THE BALLOON presents Nasty Werewolves !

When three lads try to escape the strong identity of their respective bands by dedicating their spare time covering their heroes' songs and performing opening acts hidden behind alias names and side line-ups with a little help from their friends… they end up Nasty Werewolves! Between the late 80's and the early 90's, Yvan (Crabs, Sale Défaite, Peuple De l'Herbe), François (Crabs, Ramblers, Universal Vagrants, Animal Justice) and Bruno (Crabs, Universal Vagrants) occupied 8 PM Studios and produced a 6 tracks tape, 3 covers and 3 originals songs, as a compelling proof of their attachment to the Australian scene, the garage US stuff, from punk rock to power pop... A little piece of history, some sparks of one of the many comets that cross the always ebullient Lyons scene…

During their early period with Roy Loney as lead singer, the Flamin' Groovies made one great album (Teenage Head), one very good one (Flamingo), and one that was flawed but enjoyable (Supersnazz). When Cyril Jordan took over as the band's unquestioned leader following Loney' s departure, the Groovies shifted gears from supercharged roots rock to neo-British Invasion pop, and while every record they released had more than a few brilliant moments, they seemed incapable of making an album that was solid from front to back. Thankfully, some bright penny at Sire Records got the idea of putting together a Flamin' Groovies compilation CD, and the result, Groovies' Greatest Grooves, makes a superb case for the inconsistent but undeniable brilliance of their post-Loney repertoire.

Groovies' Greatest Grooves harvests pretty much every great track from the group's three albums for Sire (Shake Some Action, Flamin' Groovies Now!, and Jumpin' in the Night) and tosses in one superb cut with Loney (the masterful "Teenage Head"), two hard-to-find ravers with short-time vocalist Chris Wilson (including the much-covered "Slow Death"), and a rough but exciting demo of "River Deep, Mountain High" cut for a proposed collaboration with Phil Spector. While Jordan's edition of the Flamin' Groovies may not have rocked as hard as Loney's, that doesn't say that they couldn't rock hard when they wanted to, as "Jumpin' in the Night," "Tallahassee Lassie," and "Please Please Girl" easily prove, and "Shake Some Action," "You Tore Me Down," and "All I Wanted" are as transcendent as pop music gets. A satisfying 75 minutes of pure bliss, Groovies' Greatest Grooves is a one-stop shopping place for anyone wanting the cream of the Flamin' Groovies' faux-Brit era, and a fine introduction to one of the best American bands of the period. I think it's a good cd version of "Shake Some Action": sound is not so bad !

THE FLAMIN' GROOVIES - Shake Some Action 7''

THE FLAMIN' GROOVIES  Shake Some Action / Teenage Confidential   7''  2012 (1976)
Produced by Dave Edmunds.
The Flamin' Groovies: Cyril Jordan: guitar, vocals / Chris Wilson: vocals, guitar / James Farrell: guitar / George Alexander: bass, vocals / David Wright: drums.

A latter-day formation of the Flamin' Groovies laid down this rock & roll anthem on its Dave Edmunds-produced 1976 album of the same name. The Groovies' minimal, roots-of-rock style fit right in with the stripped-down punk rock coming out of England at the time, though it was not meant to compete with the new, underground sound. Rather, it was an attempt at a real Top 40 single reminiscent of a British Invasion tune, with all the right elements: great chorus, gigantic guitar riff, and a drum sound recalling the iconic Phil Spector sound. Cyril Jordan co-wrote it with Chris Wilson who'd become his songwriting partner after Roy Loney's departure from the group in 1971. Alas, the shimmering jangle-rocker failed to crack the charts, but its abiding spirit-of-rock & roll vibe forever canonized the group and the song into the hall of all that's great about rock & roll. Teenage rebellion is rock's stock-in-trade and it remained the Groovies' musical raison d'être throughout the course of its long career. A few covers of the song exist: Cracker's straight-ahead version for the 1995 soundtrack to Clueless but also versions by The Kissing Bandits, Tommy Keene, The Farm, Counting Crows, Mood Six...
You can compare this version with the one (the french Philips LP pressing) my friend Mihaleez  has posted on his White Trash Soul blog.

ADAM WEST - Mondo Royale

ADAM WEST  Mondo Royale  CD 1996
6 & 6 Is / Upside Down / Speedbump / Pocket / Haunted / Rocks Will Fall / Wrong-Way Annie / Vodka Tonic Blues / Unclean / Electrified / Cream Cheese / Venus In Furs / What Happened ! / Wake Up On The Ceiling.
Produced by Adam West
Adam West: Jake Starr: vocals / Steve: bass, vocals / James Marlowe: guitar / Tom Barrick: drums.

Named after the actor who will always be know as "that guy who played Batman on that campy '60s show," Adam West wanted to bring back the old-school punk sounds of the Misfits and the Stooges to their hometown of Washington, DC. Starting out in late 1991, it wasn't long before they started gigging around the East Coast with the original lineup consisting of Jake Starr (vocals), Bill Crandall, Ray Wiley (guitar), Phil Munds (bass) and Tom Barrick; this, however, didn't last long. With a revolving door lineup and several singles released by their own Fandago Records  including a fan-club-only-single of them covering the Misfits "Cool/Cough," and later on, "Halloween/ She," a four-song EP on Messiah Complex Records and a split with Bubblegum Crisis. 1997 finally saw the release of their first full-length entitled "Mondo Royale". With a stable lineup that included Derrick Baranowsky (guitar), Steve (bass), Tom Barrick (drums), and singer Jake Starr (the only original member), the band did split-EPs with Mazinga, the BellRays and the Candy Snatchers in 1998, as well as several scattered compilation pieces. The next year saw the release of their second full-length entitled "13 De Luxe" again self-released on their own label. By the new millennium, Adam West consisted of Starr, Barrick, Steve, Johnny May (bass) and Kevin Hoffman (guitar).
Adam West signed with German record label People Like You Records in 2001 and since have released the following full-length albums on the well-respected label: "Longshot Songs for Broke Players 2001-2004" (2006), "Power to the People" (2005), "Hi-Balls Are Rolling! 1999-2001" (2004), "God's Gift to Women" (2003), "Ready Steady Adam West! 1993-1999" (2002), and "Right On!" (2001). "Right On!" was also released in 2002 in the USA on The Telegraph Company record label and in Japan on Myrmecoleo Records. Adam West has released their final album "ESP: Extra Sexual Perception" in September 2008 on their longtime record label People Like You Records.
This record ends the record collector's nightmare that is the Adam West discography! As of the beginning of 2008, Adam West has released circa 30 7-inch singles, one 10-inch EP, five full-length studio albums, three outtakes/B-sides albums, and has made over 35 high-profile appearances on various compilation CDs. Check their discography and be scared . . . be very scared
The band played their farewell tour in Europe. They concluded an almost 17-year career at a sold-out show in their hometown of Washington, DC on November 8, 2008.
After the break-up, the four band members proceeded with other projects. Steve and Mario had previously formed the band Borracho as a side project, but decided to pursue it fulltime. Jim continued with Channel 43. Jake "retired" for a few years but released one solo 7" single on Bootleg Booze Records in Sweden and two 7" singles for his Jewish Joy Division tribute band Goy Division.
In 2011, the Adam West compilation "Five The Hard Way! All Recordings 1992-1994" was released, consisting of 16 songs recorded between 1992 and 1994, seven of which were officially released beforehand. The compilation features music made by the original Adam West line-up of Jake Starr, Tom Barrick, Andy Rapoport, Ray Wiley, Bill Crandall, and Phil Munds. In 1996, Fandango pressed up a handful of promo CDs (fr-002) that compiled 14 of these songs and distributed them to band members and close friends only. This compilation marks the first time all 16 songs have been remastered, compiled, and officially released.
Since late 2011, Jake has formed a new band called Jake Starr and the Delicious Fullness, who will release two more 7" singles in 2012 (Ghost Highway Recordings) and another one in 2013 (Onslaught of Steel Records). There's also a 10'' compilation of this four singles titled "Modesty Blaze" ‎ (10", EP, Comp, Ltd) on No Balls Records. Source: Wkipedia, Adam West website.
