BEST OF POWERPOP MP3 - Vol. 1

GoodGuy666 presents V/A Best of power pop mp3 - Vol. 1
One day in 2002 I was so sick and tired of all this so-called weak-assed Power Pop, in which you can find "power" only in the name. So I decided to create such a compilation. I'm sure I'm missing lots of good bands and songs, which are power pop also, BUT at that time it was that kind of my own personal Power Pop I liked. So don't be surprised if you find a lot Yum Yums stuff and, too a lot from all bands related to Power Pop GOD and "Master of all unforgettable melodies" Dom Mariani, who deserves all Grammies and Oscars, or what else that MTV crap is called, of this world. And, last not least, to me one of the biggest surprises, a UK band that appeared from out of Nowhere with one of my Top 5 Power pop albums, "The Hormones". To me a download of all these parts is worth alone for the songs of The Hormones! Man, did this band blow me away!!!!!If anyone of you has some more info on them, if they still exist, if they have released more than "Where old ghosts meet" (1998 on V2), I'd be VERY grateful if you could tell me!I hope you like tis comp and I WOULD BE VERY GLAD TO READ YOUR COMMENTS ON HOW MUCH YOU LIKED IT :-) !Inside booklet with the tracklist is included in 2 versions. Try for yourself which one comes better and more readable.
Bitrate's not too high, BUT you get more songs, which exactly fit on 1 CD !
Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WAOW !!! 260 SONGS !!!

  9. Looks like a very good collection. However, 128 bit rate is just not enough to enjoy. Sound is too thin at 128.

  10. Gyro, I know that the bitrate is too low, but at that time (2002) I unfortunately didn't care about the bitrate. I just wanted to fill a CD with as much songs as possible, but didn't want to go under 128. I due to a lack of time can't do that compilation again and split it in 2 volumes. Sorry.
But what I for sure not want to forget: Thanks for all your fantastic garage posts at Twilight Zone!

  11. Kid Dynamite, Dave P and Anonymous ! Thanks VERY MUCH for your positive comments! That's what keep me doin' things like that compilation. And believe me, it costs a lot of time to get so much iongs from so many different LPs and CDs. The next thing I will probably post is maybe the same thing (CD full of MP3) with "Best of 60s/Garage Punk".

  12. Hi
Great comp with many artists that I didn't know. Was just wondering about Bittersweets. What did the tracks come from as they are incredible. Your help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!!

  13. The Bittersees' songs come from their very rare CD "Lesson one" on "That's Entertainment", Number is THEN 029, Year is 1996, Country is Norway.
There are members from the Basement Brats and the Kwyet Kings in this band, both GREAT bands as well !
Only Australian (Dom Mariani) write fantastic power pop songs, which are as "beautiful sunny melodic" as the songs by these Norwegians from up in the cold North of Europe.

  15. any chance you could repost this awesome looking power pop comp?

    and when is vol.2 coming?

  16. Hi Matt,
??Why repost?? All volumes are still available! But thanx for your compliments without hearing it :-)
Vol.2 will never come out. I neither have enough time nor enough songs. I might have a little strange opinion in what power pop is, but I don't want to have to much of these 70s or nowaydays lame so-called Power Pop bands on it. Might have to do with me comin' from the punk and not the pop generation. Where's the power when I hear the majority (NOT ALL) of the songs by bands like the Rubinoos or The Records? Enough blabla, download and enjoy it and leave your opinion on it. GoodGuy666

  18. A great compilation but why deride such fantastic groups as the Rubinoos or the Records?
I partly disagree with your approach to what you called 'lame so-called powerpop'. You probably need to get to know the genre a bit better.
For example, concerning The Hormones, they had quite a few CD EPs out beside their lone full-length record and their singer, Marc Carroll, has released at least 5 CDs since the demise of the band: see here: http://rateyourmusic.com/artist/marc_carroll

  19. Dear Popphil,
    Midnight Rambler here...
This compilation "Best of Powerpop MP3 - Vol. 1" was made by Goodguy666 : it's his choices and his conception (...my own personal Power Pop I liked) of Power pop ...
You may not agree with him.
But I don't see where he derides the Rubinoos or the Records...
If you knew better the SOTD blog you would know that here, we aren't really talking about what you called "Power Pop" ...
Check the excellent Powerpop Criminals, the blog of my friend Angelo or the Curty Ray Powerpop Overdose blog. I'm sure that, in this places, you can find people who probably don't "...need to get to know the genre a bit better"!
Here we're only talking about "poor real ROCK'N'ROLL" ... sorry !
    Best rock'n'roll wishes for 2010!
